VOLUNTARY TRANSACTION PROTECTION
SECONDKEY is a voluntary two-person approval system for selected card transactions. The cardholder chooses the purchases that require a trusted person’s approval—adding a deliberate second step before protected spending can proceed.
SECONDKEY is currently an internal sandbox prototype. It is not a publicly available financial product and does not issue live cards.

HOW IT WORKS
01
Purchase attempted
The cardholder attempts a transaction covered by a protection rule.
02
First attempt declined
The card declines the initial authorization and identifies that approval is required.
03
Request delivered
The trusted person receives the merchant, amount, and approval request.
04
Approve or pause
They approve that exact purchase or leave it paused.
05
Temporary exception
Approval creates a short, single-use exception for that merchant and amount.
06
Retry succeeds
The cardholder retries the purchase and the matching authorization is approved.
PRODUCT PRINCIPLES
Voluntary by design
The cardholder chooses the trusted person, the rules, and whether to use the protection.
Transaction-specific
Approval applies only to the designated card, merchant, amount, currency, and time window.
Single-use access
The approval is consumed by one matching retry and cannot authorize unrelated spending.
Transparent history
Both participants can see the request, decision, expiration, and final outcome.
CURRENT DEVELOPMENT PHASE
What the prototype tests
• First-attempt authorization decline
• Creation of an approval request
• Human approval or pause
• Exact merchant-and-amount matching
• Temporary single-use authorization exception
• Successful retry and sandbox capture
• Authorization latency and audit history
What it does not do
• Issue live consumer cards
• Process real funds
• Onboard external customers
• Replace an issuing bank
• Circumvent card-network or compliance requirements
• Operate as an autonomous purchasing agent
INSTITUTIONAL MODEL
Authorization control
A configurable approval layer applied during card authorization.
Institutional integration
Designed as potential infrastructure for an existing issuer or card program—not as an attempt to independently bypass one.
Responsible testing
Development begins with an isolated sandbox and internal test cardholders before any live pilot is considered.
